Social Media vs the stars
We live in
a world where the majority of people are addicted to social media. So many
people these days are self- obsessed, or do not accept one another because they
have a low amount of likes on Instagram or more Facebook friends than others.
Everyone is in their own world attached to their phones and could not imagine
the thought of not having communication with friends with the touch or swipe of
a screen in seconds. I am a year 12 student in high school and I do not know of
one person who does not have a phone as a way of communicating with others.
Social media has become a very popular topic over the decades as it is all over
the world and keeps expanding daily. Social media has been more frequently talked
about in the past decade. Huge online companies were created, drawing in
billions of people around the world particularly through Apps including  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snap chat.
All of these applications can be accessed with devices and connection to the internet. The focus of my blog is based on Social Media Vs the Stars. Most of the famous and well-known celebrities use social media to share their life with the world on a daily basis. They are lucky enough to be paid for posts, likes and followers unlike the rest of us.
For my example, I will be using the Kardashians. This particular family has made humungous amounts of money from social media platforms; they own many businesses and have their own reality T.V show. As an example, Kim Kardashian has 147 Million followers Kylie Jenner 146 Million followers and the other three sisters close behind and still in the millions, all on the social media site Instagram. Instagram is a site, which lets you create a profile of yourself, and encourages pictures to be posted, anything of your choice. From looking at the amount of followers the Kardashians have, you must think to yourself, what is the age range of people following? These celebrities have all ages of people following them, which in this situation, was a problem for Kim Kardashian after releasing her revealing selfie.

The photo that Kim shared of herself, in my opinion has a
major influence on mainly young girls/women (14 – 20), as Kim is someone that may
be looked up to and idolised. This particular photo that was shared to the
public  is not a good influence as it
gives people the wrong idea and makes girls think it’s okay to post naked photos
of themselves on the internet.  It can be
extremely damaging if a photo you thought was private got exposed to the
public. The fact that Kim posted the photo just because she can makes us as
viewers realise she does not exactly understand that anyone can see this photo
and it doesn’t give the best impression of Kim. As a result, this image
communicated the wrong meaning and was not suitable for the public to see. The
attention from the views were mainly negative, as they too did not agree with
the shared photo.
The purpose of Kim Kardashian’s body post in my opinion was mainly
to gain likes and followers. Kim is paid approximately anywhere between
$700,000 – 1,004,000 AUD per post according to the Harpers Bazar website. For
every like and every follower she earns more money so by her posting this photo
it meant lots of attention on her, and posting a naked photo of herself did
just that. So many people these days are able to make careers out of social
media sites and can be paid crazy amounts of money.
From personally seeing this picture when Kim Kardashian
posted it, I felt confronted and did not expect to see it so openly posted on
social media. I personally do not think the picture was appropriate for it to
be shared on social media. Another thought that I had about the photo is that
Kim has young children herself and I was surprised that she would be so open to
share a post like this. What if her daughter came across this photo later in
life? I feel this could influence her in thinking that it is okay to post a
photo like this. Yes, she does have a great body for having had two children
but the outrage the public had towards the photo was an obvious give away that
it was not appropriate to be shared on public platforms.

this is a well written blog with lots of personal responses to the image that has given readers a good point of view on the harm of the image Kim K posted
